Yabucoa, Paraíso del granito {Yabucoa, Granite Paradise}

El granito se podria considerar uno de los tipos de piedra ideal para escalada de bloques. En estos tipo de bloques se han establecido algunos de los problemas más difíciles del mundo. En Puerto Rico existen este tipo de piedras y la mayoría de ellas se encuentran en el sureste de la isla, especialmente en Yabucoa.

Granite can be considered one of the best types of rock for bouldering. Some of the world's hardest problems have been established in this type of boulders. This type of rock exists in Puerto Rico and most of it is found in the southeast of the island, especially in Yabucoa.

Yabucoa es un pueblo costero y varios de estos bloques están ubicados en las playas. Esto te brinda la oportunidad de tener una buena sesión de bloque y después darte un chapuzón para enfriar los motores. ¡¿Que mejor combinación?!

Yabucoa lies in the coast and some of these boulders are located on the beach. This gives you the opportunity of having a good boulder session and then take a swim on the beach to cool down. What a better combination?!

La escalada en granito se caracteriza por sus agarres incómodos gracias a la superficie porosa de la piedra. Por un lado ayuda a pegarte a la piedra, por otro lado la fricción con la piedra lastima la mano con mayor fascilidad.

One of the characteristics of climbing on granite is uncomfortable holds due to its dry rough surface. On one hand it helps you stick to the rock better but on the other hand the friction with the rock hurts the hand with more ease.

Añadele a esto el uso de agarres pequeños, bien bien pequeños o donde solo puedes aplicar presión y fricción, esto mas muy pocas opciones para ubicar los pies y tienes la escalada en granito.

Add to this the use of small holds, super small holds or where you can only apply pressure and friction, all this plus very little options of where to put your feet and you have what it is to climb on granite.

Montones de bloques de granito residen en Yabucoa y pueblos adjacentes listos para ser limpiados y escalados. El potencial es indiscutible solo falta mucho trabajo y visión para establecer problemas de nivel mundial.

A lot of granite boulders live in Yabucoa and the towns next to it ready to be cleaned and climbed. There is no doubt of the potential, what's missing is a lot of work and vision to establish world class boulder problems.
